About Botox/Dysport

One of the most widespread treatments in recent years, which allows the elimination of wrinkles and facial rejuvenation with immediate results is the use of botulinum toxin. It comes in two packages and is widely recognised in the public as Botox (Allergan) and Dysport (Ipsen).

This substance was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century, and in the mid-20th century it was manufactured in a laboratory. Its application in medicine began in the 1970s in ophthalmology and later in neurology. In April 2002, it gets approval from the F.D.A (Food and Drug Administration of the United States) for application in the treatment of forehead and mid-eye wrinkles. Since then, 10 million applications are made every year around the world, with an increasing trend.

Botox/disport treatment is of course not a substitute for surgical procedures, but acts as a complement or improves the facial appearance in people who do not directly desire extensive plastic surgery.

The use of the drug requires excellent knowledge of the anatomy of the facial muscles, its mode of action, dosage, indications and contraindications. Compared to other injectable implants, which soften wrinkles by filling them, this one acts differently. Botulinum toxin “blocks” the release of a chemical substance of nerve cells (acetylcholine), which causes the contraction of muscles, and in this way the movement of muscles is weakened and the formation of wrinkles is eliminated for as long as the action of the drug lasts.
The treatment is simple, short (about 10 minutes) and is carried out in the plastic surgeon’s office. This treatment is mainly used to improve horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows, on the side of the eyes (‘goose leg’), and in selected cases on the upper and lower lip and neck.

You should be aware, that its action starts after 48-72 hours and reaches the maximum in 15 days. Botox/dysport treatment is very safe and the side effects are minimal when the treatment protocol is strictly applied.
Your face may have a slight redness after the treatment but it is eliminated in a few hours. You can immediately return to your scheduled activities.

The botox/dysport treatment offers immediate results, giving our lost youthful facial image radiance and freshness. It is a short and safe, low-cost procedure that allows us to have an overall more refreshed appearance.
